Past Projects

Pi-Wars 2014

One of the first projects we worked together on, although in this case the vast majority of it was Henry's design.

It had attachments for infrared line-following and ultrasonic distance sensing (shown below).

Spinny Robot

Initially our Pi-Wars 2016 robot, loosely based on the NASA Mars Curiosity rover. Before adding the rocker-bogie suspension though, we found that using 1000kV motors with standard ESCs lacked control. Stretching inner tubes and Lego tyres over the motors helped a little, but it still had excessive amounts of wheelspin.

We tested the chassis to destruction about 3 or 4 times, starting in Lego and then moving the 3D-printed PLA. We started rebuilding it with an aluminium chassis

RC Quads & Planes

I think we've built something like 8 quadcopters between us now, as well as a couple of tiny whoops. I can't even remember how many times I've rebuilt mine after a crash...

We started building a couple of 3" quads but haven't got round to finishing them yet.

We've also made a few planes, they never seem to last to a second outing though...

Pong-Bot

A relatively quick project made in the run up to to new years eve. The concept was rommba-pong but there's only one target that everyone is aiming for, and when someone gets a ball in it launches it back out.

Sadly it was fatally wounded after taking a tumble off a table. We fixed it up and it was fin for a while, but then it stated burning out servos for an unknown reason and we haven't run it again since.

The hastily constucted "Pong-Bot"

Pi-Wars 2024

The most techincally advanced robot we've ever made. Incidentally, also the robot with the most wasted potential.
